Hi from South Louisiana
whats goin on everyone? i'm justin from south louisiana. been browsing the site for a few days now, finally decided to join. I recently got into cycling, and for the past couple weeks i've been riding my old 40lb wal-mart mountain bike about 10 miles a day, struggling. finally decided to break down and get a road bike. i went to my local very reputable bike shop, and purchased a Specialized Allez Double today. they didnt have my size in it, so its ordered. should be in mid next week. i cannot wait to get it, and start enjoying the road. yall have an awesome site, and i cant wait to start learning. see yall around.

So the road riding is good in/around Opelousas? I've had some good times in South LA - good folks and unbelievable food. Just wondering - have you ever checked out the Tammany Trace https://www.tammanytrace.org/ ?

the riding around opelousas is so-so, fairy not-so-good roads, but there are some good ones. that tammany trace looks awesome, but its 153 miles away. the owner of the shop i ordered my Allez from said he's gonna give me some dates and locations of group rides around Lafayette, LA, which is a big city about 20 miles south of opelousas. he said theres advanced, intermediate, and beginner groups, so i'm looking forward to that. i see you're from the woodlands. i lived in Spring, TX for about a year(all of 2006). and a good buddy of mine lived in the woodlands, but i dont remember the name of the street. gosling maybe?

Hey man. My name is Justin as well, and I'm also from S. Louisiana. Although I live in the Houma-Thibodaux area, but going to school in NOLA. The north shore has some AWESOME bike trails. Tammany Trace is just one of them. It's far, but worth it IMO. I'm just starting to get into biking as a form of exercise after a bone marrow transplant last year. I spent the last year in Minneapolis and just about EVERYONE up there either commutes by bike, or at least rides occasionally. I met a few really awesome (and cute) chicks up there that worked in the hospital where I had my transplant, and they were always talking about biking and stuff. One of my physical therapists would commute to work everyday about 8 miles in the winter! And one of my favorite nurse aids always came in with a really red face from the cold. I used to pick on her a lot.
But anyway, Lafayette seems way too congested for any biking. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm afraid to even drive around there!!!

Yeah Rebelford329 - Gosling is one of the main roads in The Woodlands. It's a good area for riding - you can stay in The Woodlands or venture out west and north and get as much as you want. Good luck with the rides and all - I'll tell you one thing though - I'm looking forward to crawfish season!

Hi Justin, you will really enjoy riding the Allez, especially after riding a 40 pound Huffy . Your speed will increase by about 10 mph the first day!
