Hello from Nokomis Florida
Hello all from Nokomis Florida. My name is Ron & I'm 53 yoa. My wife & I started biking about 9 months ago. Dad died of leukemia & we had very close friends whose daughter was diagnosed with the same condition. In dealing those two horrible situations we came to depend on information provided by a great organization called the national lymphoma/leukemia society. We soon found out that they sponsor a fund raiser every year that includes a century ride called "Team in Training". We got exited about having the opportunity to give back, bought bikes and completed our first century ride 6 months later. We'll be retiring in about 3 years & have now found a hobby that we can enjoy till we are senior citizens & beyond, along with the added benefit of getting and staying in shape. We are still very much novices with our new hobby & hope that through this forum we can learn much much more about it.

My wife has an acceptable Cannondale road bike but I have a Trek hybrid 7300. I'm looking to buy a road bike but don't know yet what to buy. Looking at trek, cannondale, motobecane, & giant but need help in picking one that will last and is more than entry level yet affordable???

Actually, Ron ^^^ can probably give you some good advice. He works part time in a bicycle shop, so he is the 'go to guy' as far as I am concerned!

Nokomis is a beatiful spot, but unfortunately you don't have the hills to offer you a challenge, so I have an alternative. At the height of rush hour I want you be peddle your bike down the middle of Route 41 south, turn off on Business 41 through Venice until it intersects with 41 again and then head back north. Do that once a week and it should get your blood pumping as well as any hills.
