New Rider from Idaho

I found this site while searching for reviews and information on a Kona "Hoss" bicycle. I think I'll go with a new 2007 Dlx Hoss. I am getting this for $850.00. Is this a fair price from my local bike shop?

I live in Kamiah, ID. I am 6-2 and 300lbs. I have been losing weight but my knees are taking a beating from the walking I have been doing. I am hoping that the bike will take some of the stress off my knees.

I have not riden a bike since I was a kid. I am going to read the FAQ's for information. Are there any other area I can research to basically learn how to "properly" ride this new bike?

I thank everyone in advavce for all the help I will receive.

Hi. Welcome to Bike Forums. You've come to the right place for tips on riding. One piece of advice I can give you to keep stress off the knees is to make sure you learn how gearing works. Until you develop strength and endurance, make sure you use your lower gears (easier to pedal) when climbing hills, or any time you start to feel stress on your knees. Check out the Clydesdales forum for more info when first starting out. Great tips for people over 200 lbs. It's come in handy many times for myself.

Thanks for the information. Learning to use the gears properly will be something I'll work on. I have been to the Clydesdales and the 50+ forums and I've found good information. Take care and thanks agian. Bulkness
