Hi all, just joined the forum. I am 59, been cycling for 10yrs. Got 4 cycles and a tandem. Holdsworth 1982 Nouvo record-Puegot Tourer- Dawes street cruiser and a Giant expedition MTB . Tandem is unknown but fantastic for holidays and days out with Sue my wife of 40yrs. Cycling is the best thing I have ever done, wish I'd started earlier in my life instead of drinking wine and whisky :-) ??? Its interesting to read the forums and very informative. I am hoping to join a local CTC soon to go on group rides again. Pezman65

Sounds like quite the bike collection. Someday I'm going to have to invest in a tandem. They look like fun. Welcome to Bike Forums.

Tandem
Hi Thanks fo your reply, I would recomend a tandem especially if you have a partner who is not as strong a cyclist as you. With Panniers you can have a great day out and talk together without feeling you are always waiting for them or them feeling they are holding you back. Paul

Sounds perfect for my wife and I. She doesn't mind going mountain biking with me, however she's not a big fan of road biking. Likely because she's not proficient at it yet. One question for you, how hard is it to pedal a tandem up an incline compared to a regular bike?

It's easier
- climbing solo at too low a cadence (her half-bike has lower gears than mine, and she's not afraid to use them
- waiting around for her at the top

Yes I agree with Bruce, Power to weight ratio is far better. Not found a problem with any hill yet and we did a holiday in wales last year and came up the 4.5 mile hill out of Abersoc fully loaded. Only needed two bottles of wine to recuperate, :-)
