Greetings from southwest Ireland
 

Hello to all, I'm new to this forum and looking forward to reading your stories, thrills, spills, and woes. I've been cycling seriously for about 23 years. In the early 1990's, I worked in an excellent bike shop in Arlington Heights, IL called Bikes Plus while going to grad school. My family and I have been living in Ireland for seven years now and loving it. My wife and I still have to pinch ourselves when we get out on the road here - taking in the beauty of this amazing island. For the last nine years, I have been a roadie, but also rode mtb's before too. Favourite ride ever - March 2004 - Capetown, South Africa- largest bike race in the world - 27,000 riders - The Argus.

Ireland ... cool!!! One of the few countries on my "must-visit" list. Someday I have to ride on one of those country roads with lush, green rolling hills. If you've got any pics of your rides I'd love to see them.

How is living in SW Ireland? I had the opportunity to tour Ireland on bike in 2000. Epic ride that I will never forget. My business partner is actually from Waterford. I would like to her more about your rides and loops that you go on. I am planning a trip over again this summer and I will most likely spend most of my time down in and around Cork and then up in Dingle (for a little surf'n). Chat soon.

Hi there-- planning on touring Ireland (start/end in Dublin) for about 3 weeks in July of 2010. Will be with my gf. My aim is basically 2fold-- (a) see the countryside and small towns and (b) since I am a musician who plays Irish trad, spend loads of time in pubs at sessions. (I would bring a mandolin)

I have a few questions about ireland

a) is there a bike-friendly way to get from Dublin airport to city center (heard the riding is scary), and also can one get OUT of Dublin safely?
b) if we avoid the major roads, is the cycling relatively quiet? I am OK with highways etc but my GF is a bit more timid.
c) Wondering if anybody has done a tour of Ireland not camping (ie using hostels, B&Bs etc)-- how did you organise your accomodations?
