Welcome - you will get lots of help here. Once you decide on the type of riding you will do put your question on that section of the Forum - Road, Touring, Mountain, Commuting etc. Take a note of the bikes the Local Bike Shops (LBS) try to sell and their features, and ask for comments on these forums. There are several members from PQ, and Michel Gagnon is most knowledgable - particularly in the touring area.

don't forget about fixed gear! I recently took my fixie up to le belle ville montreal, and had a great time navigating both the jazz fest traffic, and the road up mont real. i'm a new convert, but i love it so much that i think you should google "sheldon brown" and read what his site has to say about fixed gear bikes. it might just be worth it. there is a forum for fixed gear and single speed on this site.

hey just to amuse you...the first long sentence i learned in french while visiting montreal was: "Il y a un encole qui m'a pinque mon velo" my friend bought a book of british to french slang translations, and when he mentioned that one, i knew i had to memorize it, oui?
