Learning the heard way...

I spent way too much money on a "galaxy" bike today...I found one of the forums online and now I feel really sad because they said they're ****ty bikes... I realize I don't know anything about bikes and that I really should learn, although I guess today ignorance would have been bliss...

That's a load of carp. There is nothing wrong with that bike (I'm assuming that we're talking about the Mercier Galaxy). It's a great entry level bike that will last YEARS AND YEARS. For five hundred bucks you got a nice bike.

Which Galaxy are you talking about? Dawes, Gary Fisher, or Mercier?

LOL...well, I really wish it had been a mercier, even Dawes...but nope, this is actually the "brand" not the model of a series low end of bicycles produced in Korea in the 70's, the brand label on the front I noticed after I got it home said "galaxy bicycles...Made in Korea" was attached to the front with what looked like double sided foam tape the kind one might used to hang a light mirror on a wall, I touched it lightly and it appeared as if it would easily fall off...I replied to a thread on this website, the buyer saw the thread and offered to take the bike back...so that's the end of the story. I guess they're pretty common in the Houston Area...I wouldn't know being originally from the NW. They're red with gold lettering, and the thread on this sight is the only thing online about them...

In the end...it'a all good, surprisingly enough I got my money back, I got a crash course in bicycles, and I'm much more interested and involved in riding and learning about cycling and it's technical aspects...so I'm thankful...

Srsly....You paid what for it ? 50.00 maybe ?
That is a good buy ! You got a nice, clean steel lugged vintage rider
with a sprung seat, rack, in good shape....
Id be riding that like Roy Rogers rode Trigger

Id go get it back. Really. There was nothing wrong with that bike !

Just remember, the folks in C & V are very nice, and will help you get the best possible bike for you if you let them know your needs .

I paid $80 for it, mainly the gears didn't feel solid in shifting, they were soft plastic and when I got on the road they didn't feel like a solid click into each gear but rather like I had to wiggle it to get it to click and stop ticking which sketched me out since they are in the middle and not on the handle bars. I just really felt like I paid too much, and everyone has a different idea of what "a lot" or "a deal" is based on what they have =)

I'm definitely getting advice in advance next time...so thanks everyone...

Happy trails...
