I don't ride so why I am here?
Because my son is an 11yo junior road/cyclocross/triathlon racer and my husband and I need to learn a lot about the sport. I searched for "junior" and did not come up with much but did enjoy the descriptions of how to buy a bike. I am sure my son will enjoy the site as well. Any advice on where to turn for junior specific info on training, bike purchases (the darn boy just keeps growing), etc. would be appreciated. There does not seem to be a clearinghouse site on this topic, perhaps because most kids have parents who know what they are doing?
The answer to the question, how many people and how many trips to the bike shop does it take to fix a flat in our family is 3 and 4. But we did it!

Those are some good questions! I would suggest posting in the Road Cycling forum to get some opinions.
Technically, your son can't ask (because he's not 13), but you can ask questions for him .
Welcome, both of you, to BikeForums!

To fix a flat it should take 1 trip to the bike shop to buy a patch kit, pump and tire levers, and a visit to the Park Tool and the late Sheldon Brown websites https://www.parktool.com/repair/ https://sheldonbrown.com/home.html
Arent there people at the races who can give guidance on training - like the parents of the winners?

Is he just getting started in triathlons? There is also a good bit of information and friendly people at beginnertriathlete.com so you might want to check that out. Welcome to the forum! My boys are older now, but they did a lot of riding when they were younger, though nothing competitively. The oldest was more into it than the younger one, having done a century (100 mile ride) but they both enjoyed it a lot and it was fabulous family time. I guess the best advice I can give to kids that age is to simply enjoy themselves!
