Introductions

So I've been reading all of your posts for a few months nowand thought why not join!!! i don't have much expeareance but I have LOTS of questions!

I live in Toronto and have been a regular rider for about a year and a half. It would be two years however there was that nasty spill just three months after I started riding. Oh well...it builds character. Right??? Let's just say that now I am a much better city rider (I grew up on an Island so the streets were just a tad quiter). However now all I want is to ride on trails not pavment and thoes are hard to come by in Toronto when you don't have a car!

Well I look forward to picking all your brains!

Ta Ta for now I'm off for a ride!

Hey Betsy Girl

I just joined too, and also live in Toronto. And yes I've been riding for only a little over a year. Where have you found good trails in Toronto if any. Oh and by the way. WELCOME to the club

I really enjoy the participation by people outside the U.S. We are a rather international group here. Welcome to the forum.

Unfortunatly the only places I've been riding on are the streets of Toronto, which at times is like riding on trails due to the abundance of potholes in this city! I did pick up a book from mec called Greater Toronto Bicycling Guide full of off-road trails so hopefully there are some good ones in there.

Hello, Betsy how are you? I'm fine, thanks. I'm new to the forum and new to cycling(overlooked activity/sport...shame on me). I'm a Toronto native but reside in Mississauga. The sport can be very expensive (bike, clothing, etc.). I've tried to find on the internet info on local rides, or "centuries". Do you know of any? I already can't wait for next spring/summer and bike show at the Int'l building in T.O. Anyways, take care and keep riding.

PS Maybe I've seen you bike ride on Queens Quay or LakeshoreOntario place? its a haven for cyclists.

Hi Bets and Terrance. I'm new to this forum as well. I'm in the west. Vancouver. The place that people in Toronto make fun of because of all the rain we get. Or do we make fun of Toronto when we are having balmy temps in the middle of February and Toronto is knee deep in snow.

I've owned a bike for close to 38 years, delivered a morning newspaper by bike and cycled to school and work in my teen years. Cycled once in awhile every year till a few years ago. A cycling friend of mine (23 years older) invited me to come out on Saturday mornings in Decembver '98. A few days before Christmas. It was -5C. We make it out at for least 40 Sat morning rides. And I've been riding seriously during the last two years - out on the bike at least 3 to 4 times a week. Started cycling commuting in June 2001 and made it to three times a week to work. A 50Km round trip each day. Working on moving up to 4 times a week and also use public transit-trying to make less use of the car. I've also done 4 annual rides (200km over 2 days) for the BC Lung Association.

I sure missed out on a lot of cycling in years past. I'm glad I am back into cycling in a much bigger way. I enjoy going out for rides at anytime of the year. Gotta like it.
