Greetings from Idaho

Hello from Idaho, land of mountains, deserts, and great potatoes. Long time lurker, newbie poster.

I live in the city of Boise, in the southwest part of the state. I’ve relied on a bicycle as my primary means of transportation for over fifty years, in California, Minnesota, Alaska, and Idaho. Did some road racing in the past, but I’m primarily a utility cyclist now.

Someday I’d like to see what it’s like to ride in Amsterdam or Copenhagen, but here in the car-centric U.S. I have found that traveling on the roadway in accordance with the vehicular rules of the road, and respecting others’ rights to do likewise, is the safest and most efficient way for me to get where I’m going. I hope I live to see the day when America’s pathological infatuation with the automobile is a thing of the past.

More and more cities around the world are slowly introducing bicycle friendly paths, lanes, etc. Just by riding a bike everyday, you can help influence others to do the same. You can make a difference by fixing an old bike and giving it to a friend, neighbor, relative. Influence them while they are young.

Theres a great local group that started recently that is going to help expand bicycling in Boise and the rest of the Treasure Valley. I haven't gone down to volunteer yet, since they are shut down for the Boise Bicycle Week.

When in doubt ride the greenbelt! No cars and the Boise river.
