On my way to NZ and in need of advice...

Hi All,

Moving to NZ (dunedin) in August from the UK (can't wait)... - However I have a dimlema and would like your advice, I own a Trek Fuel 80 2003 full suspension. I love it dearly, cost approx 1300 new and I picked it up on ebay for 230. So my question is do I spend the money and ship it / fly with it, this costs or do I just buy one out there of similar spec - shipping costs are approx 300?

For instance what brands do I have to choose from in NZ? I see from a few bike shops in Dunedin that the only brand I recognise is Scott and thats not a brand / spec I am after ?

If I come over and buy one the most I would want to spend is $700-800

Thanks in advance

You know the sort of bike you want, and you already have it. So pay the cost of shipping - it might be a bit more expensive than what you could find there, but you will know you have the right bike from the start.

I was hired to outfit a bicycle for someone here in the States who was moving to NZ. He and I went over topo-maps of the South Island where he'd be staying/working/playing. He opted for a wide selection of gears and a lightweight touring-frame. Many don't realize that New Zealand has lowland beaches and towering mountains making up it's characteristics.

He sent me a letter - saying the bike I built was perfect for what he encountered there. He had that bike shipped. It took awhile as he chose a (cheap) slow-boat, packed in a wooden shipping-crate. It arrived undamaged.

Thanks for responding - only one issue now - I was looking at the for sale section and saw that there must be specialized out there and I wouldn't mind a new bike - something like a stuntjumper or rockhopper ? but not sure what they would cost out there ... they would be anything from 600 - 1200 ?
O decisions decisions.....
