Another Old Guy in Austin
Can't believe I only found Bike Forums today with all the time that I spend on the web!
Used to ride when I was a kid -often longish rides, 180-250 miles a day. Then went 45 years without touching a bike because I lived in some inhospitable places (Central Africa, Tokyo, the Great Smokies, etc., not to mention the great city of Houston - run off the road there twice).
Finally gave in to the yen about 5 years ago, bought a Bianchi and rode off to Labrador from Texas. Last year cruised around Alaska (Skagway to Fairbanks, Anchorage to Homer, Valdez to Dawson City) and then from the Klondike back down to Austin.
Planning to leave for Europe in two weeks and ride around Germany, and maybe up to North Cape, Norway. Solved the problem of the current cost of transporting a bike by air by buying (just now) a DownTube Front Suspension bike. Only 8 gears (Sturmey Archer), but I'm hoping it will work for me. If it does I have plans for megatours in Europe and Asia. I plan to keep going until Alzheimer's catches me out: it'll be time to stop when I'm pedaling down a road one day and think "Now, where the Heck am I??"
Welcome to bike forums...
