newest newbie until someone newer arrives

Jeff from southeast Florida. Got back into riding after a loooooong hiatus after I signed on to do a charity ride this coming November for United Cerebral Palsy...

Currently pedaling a Trek 7.5FX and split my riding between the east (home) & west (significant other) coasts of sunny (and getting hotter) Florida.

Welcome to the forum. You have lots of time to train for your charity ride. Feel free to ask any questions.

Jeff - Welcome to the group. Good luck with the UCP - hope your experience is better than the one I had with them. They sent out a health survey then about 3 working days before the ride told me I need to provide medical clearance. Was odd as I didn't need it for any of the other charity rides I did last year, only that one.

Thanks guys. That's strange re: the medical waiver. Never heard of that sort of thing either. Trouble is they've already collected $$$ so even if I didn't ride they got the bucks. Nothing in their original contract/agreement so... We'll see.

Went back and it's now covered on their FAQ page. In their defense, I was on the first ride they did in Tampa, and I guess they just hadn't yet worked out the details of how to run a charity ride, and when things needed to be done. They had my money as well, and I couldn't get an appointment to see my doctor in the time left before the ride. Water under the bridge, but as they say that first experience with them has had a lasting impression. I'll not try them again.

East coast to West coast looks like about 140 miles. so if you do that every weekend you should be in shape for the charity ride. Good luck and enjoy yourself.
