I've used the forums occasionally for a few years now, but I'm starting to get quite a bit more into it, so I suppose it's time for a real introduction.
So, I'm Brian, in Greenville, NC (the username dates from when I lived in Charlottesville, VA).
I've been a daily bike commuter for ten years and pretty much never use a car in town, even here in the sprawly South.
My usual bike is a 1984 Peugeot P8, made more commuter-friendly with Nitto moustache bars, Suntour barcons, Zefal half-fenders, and Wald folding baskets. It's out of commission at the moment with a totaled rear derailleur. Anybody got a Sachs Huret Eco (for a standard / Campy hanger...no claw) lying around?
I also have a 1980 Raleigh DL-1 roadster (recreational use only -- I don't quite trust the rod brakes with heavy loads, although I suppose millions of people in Asia and Africa do it every day) and an early-'90s Diamondback hybrid I use when the others are broken.
I also supply my fiancee with bikes, which she tolerates. Just finished fixing up a 1957 Raleigh Sports for her; her daily commuter is my mom's ca. 1961 Atala.
I'm doing some bike advocacy work with the city council here in Greenville and am getting certified as a LAB traffic safety instructor soon.
