Hi, my name is OldBrit and I've been an addict for ..

Well, about 4 years actually.
I started off with a basic Scott with Sora components but once I got into cycling I decided to leap-jump the rather expensive upgrade path and go straight for the bike I dreamed of; an Orbea Orca kitted out with full DuraAce. No regrets so far! The bike is much better than the rider but I'm working on that part.

Ridden about 1000 miles this year mainly on Sundays. I live in southern Rode Island (which is about an hour's ride from northern RI). Nice place to ride but the road surface is terrible. Lot's of unpaved roads so planning is a must.

That's all for now...

You have my sympathy w.r.t. road surfaces. I use 28mm tires. Are you limited to 25s?

Tire width isn't really my problem; it's more a case of whether the road actually has any tarmac on it!

I took a ride into Arcadia Park last year and ended up on 3 miles of dirt track with a 15% gradient hill. Paris Roubaix has nothing on this.

I picked up a Garmin 705 this year but it doesn't seem to distinguish between roads with pot-holes and roads without anything. The cadence sensor died today and so it's on it's way back to Garmin. Oh well...
