Hi from the Black Hills of SD

New to the sport and getting ready to pull the trigger on a road bike. Hips wont let me run anymore so looking for another sport to keep in shape. Used to ride quite a bit back in the 70s and really enjoyed it. Looking at ordering a Trek Madone 5.2 with SRAM Rival group...I'm on this "buy american if you can" kick.

Welcome to BF.

Buy American? I'm all for it. Too bad most bikes, including Trek, are made in China. They are only assembled here.

Trek bikes

I'm just going off of what Trek states on their website. They say that the upper level carbon Madone frames are hand built in the USA. And I do know that SRAM is an american company.

My wifes cousin works at Trek and what you say is true. Upper level Madones are still USA made. I toured the factory 3 years ago and watched them put the CF in the molds and assemble the frames.
Very labor intensive process. The public tour was not allowed in CF department but I got a guided tour through all departments, only restriction, no photos of CF area.
