    Yippie Ki-Yay M...

Hi! I'm Dave, The Golden Boy.

I had to chop that title short...

My wife and I have taken up cycling in the past couple of months. Both as a way of recreation and exercise. We've got 3 old bikes that we've been using- they all need to be fixed up or maintained in some way, shape or form, so I'm really looking forward to doing some tinkering around with the bikes...

    Hey Thanks!

I guess it's time for the obligatory bike pr0n!

The bike I've been riding is an '87 Schwinn High Sierra. I've had it since 1991, but I've barely ridden it. I've always loved the way it looked, but I've not really been in the position to conveniently ride to school or work.

We also have 2 old bikes that used to belong to my sister- my wife has been riding this late 80s/early 90s Trek 820.

Our daughter got too big for her little girl's bike, and my sister's OLD 10 speed was still at my parents' house so we sort of fixed that up for her. She doesn't like riding all that much, but our son has really been digging this bike. It's an early/mid 80s Schwinn World Sport.

I think it's interesting that he really likes that bike- when I was a kid there was a HUGE stigma around a boy riding a "girl's" bike. I don't know if he likes that it's kind of a "road" bike or he just doesn't like mine...

I love the blue Schwinn. I think bikes have morphed so much in recent years that boy/girl frames no longer make a difference.

That bike is a great rider. I like riding it, and I'm not adverse to riding it, because I'm a cranky old man anyway. I just figured a 17 year old boy would be sorta like I was back then.

Funny thing- that used to be my little sister's bike when she was a kid- she wanted a 10 speed. It was WAY too big for her when she got it, and by the time she was big enough for it she had a much *cooler* bike. So that thing was hanging in my parents' garage for 25+ years, unused.
