Quit dreaming about it and did it!

I haven't ridden a bike since I was 11 and I am 57 - well, actually my ex-and I bought mountain bikes in the 80's but I didn't learn fast enough, was confused about the gears, there weren't any trails at the time and I got discouraged and quit. I live in Omaha, NE and there are nice trails now that are easily accessible so I don't have to fear riding in traffic. I bought a Specialized Vita - a hybrid - in June and I love it! I ride as many days a week as I can - I work 10 hour days so my evening ride is only for an hour but I have gained so much speed, strength and agility in my riding I am just amazed! I did a 30 mile ride this past Sunday and it was great! I've always been fit but this is the most fun I've ever had exercising. Sometimes I feel like I'm a fifth-grader again and will even have flashes of memories from that time in my life as I am whizzing down a hill! Unfortunately I am scheduled for shoulder surgery in two weeks (torn rotator cuff) so that is going to hamper my autumn riding - I am so disappointed - but I will be back on my bike as soon as can be. I am so happy I took the risk - my confidence is so improved!! Anyway, it's nice to be part of this community!

Welcome to Bike Forums. I know what you mean about zipping down a hill and feeling like you're 10 years old again.

Good luck on your shoulder surgery, hopefully that shouldn't keep you off the bike for too long.
