Hi, from rural Upstate, NY

Hi everyone! I'm a single, 40 something educator who would rather be exercising than working. I'm a biker from way back, who discovered swimming in her 20's, then discovered running in her 30's and now do all three. Yeah, I'm thinking of triathlons. Anyway, I live in the northeast, U.S. and have been known to cycle in the winter. I have a Trek mountain bike, two Cannondale road bikes, and an old Schwinn Touring bike. I want to get back into touring, but still haven't found a way to bring my German Shepherds along on the bike. They hate being left behind.;) I'm going to try to commute to work in the spring once a week...42 miles one way...that ought to get me in biking shape, and shake up my somewhat confined students (I teach in a prison). Presently, I train on a Kurt Kinetic trainer, when I'm not running or swimming!

Anyway, I have the summer off, so if anyone has an idea for a trip...let me know. This seems like a fun forum and I've already found some good information from you guys. Thanks!

Welcome to BikeForums.

I'm going to try to commute to work in the spring once a week...42 miles one way...
WOW!! 42 miles!! That should make the inmates sit up and listen. :D

Let us know how the commute goes.

...and I thought my commute of 42 KM was long....

Welcome to the forums!

Welcome.

I've often thought about ways to take our dog on tour with us (now that we can get "pet passports" in the UK), but he's too lively to sit in a trailer and too flighty to rely on him running beside us, so at present we only take him on forest tracks .

You could always try sled racing :) as a way of travelling with your dogs!

The dogs do tie me down, but I can't live without them either. They're my family. As far as the commuting goes...the inmates may be more awake than I am, for a change, at the end of my commute. I plan to do it once a week.

Temperatures are warming up around here. May go for a roadbike ride outside tomorrow!

umm....3 hours each way by bike?
Well, if you can do it....
Seriously, though, you should check out your local bike club. the finger Lakes Bike Club might be near you-I believe that they are based in Geneva.

I live in a very small town, Cooperstown, NY...far from anything. As you know I have quite a commute to work. There is a bike club here, but it's a bunch of young race crazy guys that wouldn't think of including a 40 something year old WOMAN. I'm going to look into another small club about 25 miles from here. I guess they get together once a week during the summer to do time trials. The speed stuff is fun, but it would be fun to find a touring group.

Today I biked 25 miles. Usually unheard of in February! It ended in the rain...but who cares...it was great being out there.
