    Lawrence, KS to Zacapa, Guatemala

    Hey everyone,

My name is Pat and I'm a senior at the University of Kansas (5th yr...). I grew up in Colorado, mountian bike heaven, but I was always more interested in going down mountains in the winter than in the summer, so I never really took an interst in cycling until I moved to Kansas. No mountains.

My real interest in this forum is to get as much info as possible about long distance bicycle tours. My friend and I are planning to ride from Portland, Oregon to Zacapa, Guatemala in May as a fundraiser for the Range of Motion Project (an NGO specializing in providing orthotics and prosthetics to amputees in developing nations. We have two clinics: one in Quito, Ecuador and the other in Zacapa). Basically, I need all the help I can get, from finding the right bike to planning the stages of the trip. Any and all advice is needed and greatly appriciated.

Thanks everyone- look forward to being on this site as much as I can.

    Cheers.

Hopefully, Nancy will chime in here - Her family is on a tour from Alaska to the tip of South America - what an adventure....
