Welcome to BF
Road rider here.
What road bike do you ride?

Welcome to Bike Forums, Pat. Did you build custom frames, or work for a manufacturer?

Proteus

I ride a 1976 Proteus Custom Touring bike. It's a full Campy Record Grupo. The frame is a sweet combination of the best material and craftsmanship ever made (I built the frame:thumb:)

Custom frames for Proteus. They were the best frames in their day.
I was an Engineering student at Maryland then and we were a bunch of hippies. I did the repairs on bikes from all over the planet so I saw what the custom folks were doing and we were better. It was quite cool to transition from steel to the composites (which sucked then). Steel still beats anything aluminum now (sorry), for it's strength and ductility. Very buoyant ride.
Thanks for asking. Pat

Hi Murphsouth,
Welcome to the forums!

Very cool to find your post indicating your history with Proteus.

A friend just gave me his '70s Proteus bike. Campy Nuovo Record, touring geometry. What a sweet ride it is! I have ridden an "87 Cannondale for 20+ years and did not know what comfort was until I got on the Proteus.

Brian
