    Eastern Sierra Says Hey...

Hello fellow cycling nut jobs! I turned 55 in July and have had the best year of cycling in my life! Ran across BF recently and thought I'd poke my head in to look around.

I settled in the Eastern Sierra of California in 1987 and started exploring her dirt roads and trails one step ahead of the US Forest Service. Except for crossing the range, I poached more trails than I care to admit and even built a few. My last MTB was a GT Team LTS purchased new in 1996 and modified with riser bars and the fattest tires possible to make it a FreeRide before FreeRide was invented!

In 2006, I decided it was time for an upgrade but instead of a new dirt bike, I switched to skinny tires and bought a Specialized Tarmac. I immediately put on a compact crank with 12/27 gearing and started exploring the roads and canyons of eastern California. I'm hooked.

This year, I've managed to ride all the canyons and roads on the eastside, from Lone Pine to Bridgeport, with the exception of Whitney Portal. Haven't been north of Bridgeport yet but there's always next year!

Awesome pavement and amazing climbing in the high country of Mono County and Inyo Counties!

@ kenhill3... I gave up the MTB for the road. Crowley Lake is home -- 2 1/2 hrs south of Reno on US 395. We sit at 7,000 ft in the shadow of 13,000 ft Mt. Morgan North. It's a beautiful place and perfect for riding the road.
