Dawes SSt beating a dead horse?

I'M actually a chef at a hotel that decided to commute 10 miles a day on an ss that I havent ordered yet. I want to get exercise and my driving privleges are suspended for 3 months. I was looking at the Dawes SST because it was definitly in my price range. Does this bike exist? or is Bikes Direct the only one selling it??? I wish I could afford more but its time to make some sacrifices. I like the Bullnose handles . Im 6 foot 3 220 lbs. Im hoping to really get in to the cycling not only because Im forced to but because of the physical value. Any sugesstions? And where the hell can I buy this bike cheaper? I have a feeling its not what it is worth? Thanx dudes..

It's a fine bike. As far as I know it's only available through BikesDirect.

Look for threads about it in the Singlespeed/Fixed Gear Forum further down the main page.

Thank you for the reply's!!, Although Ive been on my bike search now for the last month, I'ts came to my attention that I live in a rural area with moderate rocks and trails. Bikes Direct sounds like my best best for purchasing a bike for my needs. I have recently took in to account that not only do I have to commute to work but would enjoy riding through some of the trails througout Yorktown battlefield and rough canvased roads here in Virginia. I need to keep up with my wifes comfort Raliegh, cause she can really hall A@S>!!!!!!!. I was thinking about the Stratford Windsor? I had my heart set on this Street bike but now Im opt to change , and the money is still dormant, lol! What are anyones thoughts on the Windsor? I'm not very quick to purchase something I think I wouldnt be unhappy with. Lbs are like car salesmen! I know how to fit my bike I just need the right bike!!! I like the flat handlbars, gears arent an issue for me. Any suggestions? Judgement day is coming very soon .

The Stratford Windsor is a nice bike ... have you also considered the Dawes Lightning?

If you find the trails a bit hard with the Windsor or Lightning, a switch of tires to 28 mm would not be too expensive, but 25 mm ones should do.

I am new here also but since you say you are thinking about maybe riding some trails, that opens up the bikes quite a bit for you.

I am not sure if it is the same where you live but there are deals on mountain bikes and hybrids near me but none on road bikes. I ordered a Mercier Aero TT from Bikesdirect because I couldn't find anything for the price near me. If I were you, I would check Craigslist for a hybrid. It sounds like exactly what you need.

You should be able to find dozens of decent hybrids for good prices. I have a Specialized Sirrus that I got at a local bike shop in 07 for $550 but if I were to buy now, I could save hundreds on CL. I have seen the Trek 7.3 (or whatever their hybrid is) on CL for $75-350. Average price is $150-250 for bikes that normally have only been rode a few times. When you consider that new they are $400-$600 and they often are still in like new condition, they are bargains.

What city are you in? Post that and we can look on CL for you.
