greetings from santa cruz!

Hello all! I've been commuting around town for about a year now on my 70's shogun road bike. It's crapping out on me and it's time to upgrade. I can do the basics with bikes but I'd really like to learn more and be more mechanical with them. This forum is loaded with information glad to be here

Definitely, not sure on the model type but it doesn't have the greatest components. Brakes take a little extra longer to stop, crank bends and parts around there rub while I pedal. Other than that no complaints but I talked to a few people who all have told me not to put any $$$ into it and start fresh. I am on a budget so I don't have the money for a brand new bike but I'm in the market for another vintage that will ride well and that I'll be able to put some money into. Something that would have the potential to get me around town and up a huge long hill to campus would be amazing. I've been looking on craigslist for older japanese bikes lately but haven't found anything yet.

heres a couple pics of my bike.

It's a basic model. The frame seems to be high tensile steel; not a pestigious or light frame. An OK starter bike but not such a good prospect for upgrades. You can gain exp. servicing and fixing, even replacing things that don't cost much. Bikes that're higher grade can be had used. If you should come across something eventually you should run it by us here. A great color in nice shape ! You ought to take note of just how it fits, other aspects too. All will weigh in on future prospects. It's a tall bike. Looks like one for a man well over six foot. We all've had bikes like that ealier on. I sort of wish I still had my first road bike. Thanks for showin' it !!

Welcome! You should be able to pick up a decent used bike without breaking the bank. It helps to be able to do some of your own maintenance. Check out VeloWeb, especially "Commuting" for some tips.
