Hi from another 50 plus guy

Hi everyone
My name is Dave and I am from Lancashire, England, UK.
I love the 50+ section and will probably spend most my time there, but everywhere looks cool.
I have always been active in various sports and recently, through injury started to cycle.
All I have to say is why did I not do it earlier?

Welcome to Bike Forums, Dave! What kind of bike do you ride?

dwhit 12-22-09 12:41 PM

Hi Cbadrider
I got myself a entry level bike from my local store it is a Carrera Kraken. Anyone familiar with Halfords in the uk will know of the name Carrera.
I didn't want to spend too much on my first purchase and I know 'Halfords' get some bad press amongst the serious bikers but I love it so far. It's only thrown me off once and it wasn't really the bikes fault.:crash:

I hear you Dave... I'm a newbie to this group and cycling. I purchased a MB last May and tipped the scale at 330 lbs. I rode that bike every day and got sick the 1st month+.
But 5 months later here I am 80/85 lbs lighter and looking to get a carbon road bike for both me and the wife... we love riding. Currently I'm in the 245/255 lbs range and I hope to get down to 220 lbs... I'm 6'4". I want to do 60+ miles regularly and maybe my 1st century this year. This year I got up to 33 miles, then I had surgery for prostate cancer.
My wife has been great working out with me and she looks beautiful. This is my lifestyle change and I think we all should be doing this.

Welcome, Dave! I agree with you about the 50+ forum, one of the things I also love about this place.

Thanks for the welcome guys.

Tim. Well done. 85lbs is awesome. I think having a target to aim at is the only way to go.
I am also aiming for my 1st century next year. I got up to around 25 miles, with a lot of off road in there.
Most of my riding has been mid-week and for around 2 hours a time.

Recently we got out at weekends, and managed longer rides, until the weather meant I spent more time in the gym.

All the best for christmas, and the new year.

Great to just now discover this forum! In the states, Colorado to be exact, 57-years-old and celebrating my first year of renewed fitness (3 Centuries so far and one coming this Sundayin the Mojave Desert of Southern California!) and having knocked off 64 pounds off of this carcass! Love my Roubaix, which I was able to afford due to reduced Rx costs!

Nice weight loss.

Hi Marblehead.
Another great story, keep it up.
I don't suppose you will be having any problems with the weather though!
3 century's and another one this sunday! Hats off to you.

What's your goals for 2010?
