I am hoping to get my wife and myself a bike in the near future. We live Eau Claire, WI so we are not in a hurry to purchase yet. We hope to be riding this spring. I am looking at giant bikes because a friend of mine owns a bike shop in Menomonie, WI and he sells giant. Does anybody have suggestions in what to look for in a bike. I am 47 yrs old and my wife is 39 we are not in very good shape so I think getting bikes will help us change that.
Thanks and a Merry Christmas to all

This may help.

You have to start out slow. Don't be concerned about speed.
The more you ride the stronger you will become.
Take on problems as they arise. Flats, sore hands, feet, butts.
I started road riding 23 months ago. Had to rest 3 times on my first 6 mile ride.
Rode 15,800 miles this year.

Welcome. If you really enjoy cycling, don't be surprised to find yourself out in bad weather. And for riding with your wife, one of you may progress faster than the other, or enjoy it more, so the other should be assured that they can enjoy cycling on their own, guilt free, when the other isn't interested or able.

Welcome to Bike Forums! What kind of riding are you interested in? Paved roads or unpaved trails? Do you think you might use your bike to ride to the store or do other errands? Asking yourself questions like this will help to determine the kind of bike that will be best for you.
Regardless of the type of bike you purchase, make sure you get it fit properly. The bike shop you purchase from should take your measurements and adjust the bike so you will have a comfortable ride.
