    Newbie 50+ from New Jersey

Hi: After porking up 35#, I've decided to get back in shape. I've just started riding a bike as part of a cross training program leading to a half marathon. I'm totally new to cycling and looking forward to purchasing my first new bike since childhood. I've commandered my son's mountain bike as an interem measure. As I'm perplexed as to what to buy and what frame size I need. This inspired me to join this forum and post my first message. I'm looking forward to corrosponding with other members on this fine forum.

    Kind regards,
    Jim

    Hi Jim,

If you are talking road bikes, make sure not to get one that is too large for you. It is better to go smaller and raise the seat and/or install a longer stem. Good luck.

Hello Jim, Welcome to Bike Forums.
Your local bike shop would be the place to start.
    They can help with sizing.

Thanks; I've read this as well. I also re-measured my inseam and found I made a big mistake. it is 30" not 32".

    All the best,
