Hi From Yet Another Sacramento Commuter
Hello, I've been lurking here for over a year and I thought it's about time I register. I took up cycling January 2003 for health and fitness, and shortly thereafter became a regular commuter and more than met my weight reduction goals. Now I ride because I love to. I put in 5,000 miles last year and am on track to do 5,500 miles this year.
Last year I didn't register because I was a little intimidated, what being a newbie and all. Since then I've been burned by searing summer heat, had my toes numbed from 35 deg F black mornings, lain awake nights from overtraining, felt the nausea of a bad bonk, and was stung by a bee that flew into my mouth. Not ot mention the daily dances with SUVs. Guess I've been initiated now.
I'm 45, ride a Jamis road bike and have the good fortune to ride in Sacramento – a cycling town with generally good weather. Ride safe,
jim

Hi James,
Noob myself here and I'd say a noob to Sacramento. I've only been here for a little over a year. I've only riden around my community and over at ART. Where do you usually ride?
Roldan

Hey Roldan,
Welcome to Sactown. I've lived here for a long time (well, I moved here before the Kings did). I do most of my riding on the AR bike trail -- yeah, it can get repetitive but the lack of cars makes riding such a joy.
For extra miles I'll ride to Davis using the I-80 bike lane. From downtown Sac take Capitol Ave westbound over the Tower bridge thru West Sac. Near the far western end of W Capitol there's a bike lane puts you on the freeway bridge (concrete barrier and fencing separates cyclists from traffic; safe, but noisy) and over to Davis.
Or I'll take the bike trail to Beals Point near Folsom Dam and continue on up Folsom-Auburn Road. Can be busy but there's a bike lane.
Or I'll take the bike trail, cross the old wooden Rainbow bridge into Old Town Folsom, then take Natoma over to Green Valley Road up into Cameron Park. A little hilly, but a good workout.
These are all well-known cycling routes. Here's a great site with more ideas:

Thanks! The trail I was wondering about was the one next to I-80. I still commute to the bay for work and in the morning I always see people cycling right next to me. Never really new how to get over there. I'll definitely check that one out.
