Hello from SE Michigan
My name is Marty from Taylor, Michigan. I'll be 53 this year and have ridden various types of bikes most of those years. I presently have a Trek 7200 Multitrack that is about 6 years old. About two years ago a friend from work told me how he and his wife had ridden from our area to the Upper Peninsula (UP) of Michigan and toured around the Eastern part of the UP. I had never really thought of any major distance riding up to then. I began checking things out, one thing led to another and I found some very informative sites on the internet, especially Bikerforums and CGOAB. Yeah I knew about the race circuits but they didn't interest me that much since I had no plans on racing.
Last August I did my first overnight "tour" using my Trek, camped in a state park, etc. Even my lovely wife of almost 32 years has an interest in doing some short tours, which I am looking forward to.
I presently am shopping for a touring specific bike which I will use for some commuting also. I plan on making my purchase by April 18th to take advantage of my 20% coupon at REI. That being said many of you will already know I am speaking of the Randonee.
Well, this may be a little long for my first post (actually second, earlier I posted a question on the touring forum). I am looking forward to learning from and sharing with everyone on these forums.

Welcome Marty.
I met Ken Payton last summer riding his REI touring bike.
He rode from CA to FL at the age of 82 years.
