Trek 1000 SL

I just bought a 2006 trek1000 sl and I love it but I am new to this sport and would like to know what the differiance is between the regular 1000 and the 1000 sl. Is one better than the other, and why? Anything anyone knows about the 1000 sl please i'd like to know.
Thanks

Welcome to Bike Forums.
You will need to look at the components on each bike.

It it a 2006 with carbon forks carbon seatpost, shimano sora shifters, sora front deraileur, tiagra rear, egg beater pedals , bontrager cranks, bontrager wheels, and bontrager saddle. One more thing i've heard that egg beaters are bad for your knees. Is this true?

AFAIK the SL just denotes the type of Aluminum tube set the frame is made from. The 1000 and the 1200 were all made with SL tubes and the 1500 was SLR tubes. I think the SLR tubes were thinner walled and lighter.

If you go to the archives on teh trek site, you will not find a 2006 Trek 1000 SL. Only a Trek 1000, all of which were built with Trek Alpha SL aluminum tubes.

Never heard that before. Many mtn bikers, cyclocross riders, and bike commuters ride on Eggbeaters. I had them on my commuter bike for 5 years and loved them. I moved them to my CX bike when I retired.
