Greetings from...Finland!
Hello there,
after a week of browsing around this forum I finally found enough courage to do my first posting... Not much opinions nor hints &tips here, but just a normal "I am" and "I ride a"-stuff.
It seems this forum has plenty of people from northern america, i wonder how many of you come from europe or even more intresting places, like sweden?) Anyway, so far I've found this forum very helpful, so thanks a bunch for you all who share your priceless information with others!
Ok, and shortly the I am-stuff.. Me, a very normal cyclist, I cycle because its faster than driving, can't afford a car and basically I like it a lot. The riding season in finland is pretty short, this year it has been no more than 30mins. So I have to make most of it... At the moment I've got only ONE bike, an old army bike. its heavy as hell, impossible to get moving but when you are rolling, there's no way to make it stop. Great! And it's impossible to break anything in it. Army bike, it says it all
ok, that's enough. Catch you all later, I'll be posting more useless & pointless posts in the future, hopefully...

Bike cavalry, sounds like an idea... I have to go and find myself one of those german helmets with a spike on top, should look great!
The winter does interrupt the season pretty badly here, let see: there's four months of snow in winter (and no light at all) one month before winter everything is covered with sleet, not a fun month to ride. and in spring, the ground is like a mine field from all the frozen dog poo and it takes a couple of months to get them all collected on your tyres. so what does that leave for cycling? 5 months... not too much, especially when compared to the conditions in southern california...

Well, you can always move here with the rest of us!
There is another guy from Finland here- he must be out scraping the poo off his shoes and bike, because he hasn't been online in a couple of weeks! His name is Juha, and I'm sure when he sees you're here, he will pipe in and say something.
I haven't been to Finland, but my sister lived there for a year and loved it. It's in the plans someday.
I feel for you, dude. I went to northern Sweden in March, and it was one of the coldest hell dimensions I've ever been in. I can just imagine what you must be going through!
The moral of the story- go train in Spain!
Anyway, welcome to the forums!
Koffee

I'd totally go for a year or three in Finland. I love to hike, snowshoe and ski in the snowy woods and fields. I'd have to put fenders and Nokians on my Trek for frozen-dog-doo and sleet seasons, but it'd be totally worth it to snowshoe under the moonlight half the year.

Heh, this is not the poo season, Koffee! I've been busy sharpening my studded tyres for the sleet month. Tervetuloa, Zbeque!
And he is absolutely right about the army bike. Those are some really solid pieces of work.
