    Newbie here from montreal canada

Hi everyone, just wanted to introduce myself, I am a 29 year old cyclist from montreal canada in my first year of road cycling, previously I was doing downhill biking but got fed up of injuries!!

I'm trying to improve my cycling to be able to do some race next year.

I currently ride between 40 to 100 km have done some 120 km this year with an average of 30 km which I am also trying to improve without much luck. I try to average 200 km per week, like I said, I try.

I also weight train two days a week so that helps.

Welcome from another Canadian. You have some great areas for road riding near Montreal. Enjoy!

Welcome - are you riding with a club? I think that is the training you need to get into racing so you can keep the high speeds in a group, and learn to change your pace according to the tactical situation. However as I am only into commuting and rec riding you dont have to take any advice from me. Where do you ride? My favorite rides are out to the West Island and over the mountain.

    Hi.

I'm not doing "road riding", but I ride a lot on roads: for commuting, leasure rides with the kids, etc.
YOu'll often see us along the shores of the island, riding to Cap-Saint-Jacques or East to Repentigny. The Piccolo trailercycle attached to a tandem seems to turn quite a few heads.

I bike with a club, les bicycologues, which is more of a recreational club however it's a majority of men so when testosterone gets in there, the speed is always higher then expected which pretty much burns me out cause sometimes they ride 40-41, then go down to 35 then up again and by the end of the 100 km ride I'm beat!!!

There are some nice areas on the south shore but the road conditions really suck! holes, holes and holes everywhere and I almost forgot lots of wind this season too!!

I particularly like Mt-St-Hilaire as its the closest hill for me from my home on the south shore, once they finish the new road it will be a great place to do some hills!!!
