Obese noob here!

Hi! I just bought my first bike in 15ish years, a Giant Rincon, on Sunday. I wanted something comfortable that can handle my flabby 5'11" 255 pound body (and hopefully allow me to burn some of that weight off). I've been on it 3 times in the last couple of days and I think I really like it though I might need a new seat. I've just been riding around my neighborhood for about 15 minutes at a time because I'm getting tired very quickly. I hope to get on some trails and maybe even commute with my bike as my skills/muscles improve and I become less timid.

I registered here after reading a comment on the 2008 Minneapolis Star-Tribune article about Scott Cutshall about your Clydesdales/Athenas subforum. I hope to learn more about this wonderful activity and how I can get better at it, as I have a very long way to go

Thanks for reading!

Welcome to Bike Forums.
Ride as much as you can.
Take a rest day when you need it.
You will get much stronger each and every week.

Cheers, welcome to Bike Forums!

Sounds like you already have a plan. Enjoy the forums and the new ride, and good luck with your goals.

Thanks for the encouragement

I was concerned about rain yesterday so I ended up taking a break, which was probably wise, although later in the evening I was feeling bummed about not going out.

I finally went on the trail today, a nice smooth flat trail that I think will be good for breaking in my bike and myself. I started getting a little bit tired and turned around at the 1.5 mile marker but as soon as I did I realized I was going (slightly) downhill the rest of the way and I definitely could have gone at least another mile. I plan on doing that next time I'm on the trail, and trying to push myself a little more.

So that gives you an idea of what kind of shape I'm in! Nonetheless, I'm excited and looking forward to getting stronger and I'm already looking at my area in a new light This is the most I've enjoyed exercise in a long time.
