Are you going for a recumbent because you've tried a normal bike and it hurts your hip, or are you just expecting the recumbent to be more comfortable? If the latter, I'd try sitting on a few bikes before I made up my mind. If you haven't ridden for a while you'll find you feel less vulnerable on a conventional frame. If you do have to have a recumbent I agree with 10wheels - get a trike. Much easier to ride at low speeds, and from your description you won't be trying to break any speed records until you get a bit fitter.
