Probably a typicail story
My story has probably been told many times before. I'm a 40 something father of 3 carrying around too many extra pounds who used to ride a lot in my twenties. Had a few bad accidents and a started a family bla bla bla. Fast forward 20-30 years and I'm looking to get back in the saddle.
Last fall I took on a serious diet (Medi-fast) and lost 45 pounds. I went from 260 to my current weight of 215. I'm 6'2" so my goal is 200 but that goal has been eluding me. It turns out it is a lot easier to exercise when you are not wearing two 20 pound bags of kibbles around your waist so I looked at my old bike and decided to dust her off. My old bike is an entry level Bianchi circa 1985. No index shifting, Chromo, and weighs about 26 pounds. About the only upgrade I made back then was some nice Mavic Wheels. My old love was about to be relegated to a trainer. On Black Friday I set out to the big bike chain store to see if there were any screaming deals.
Turns out there were. I bought a Scatante (I know, I know) carbon frame with some Dura-Ace, and ControlTech components. With the sale price plus the Black Friday discount of 20% plus, if you join the club, the 10% extra back for accessories, I basically got the bike for cost. I couldn't wait to ride. Unfortunately it was November in Seattle.
I put the new bike on the ceiling and went looking for trainers. Long story short, I ended up with a "OneUpUSA" and love it. Now I train about an hour every day and am ready for the road. I've got about 600 miles logged so far this spring but I really hate ridding in the rain so I don't get out on a regular basis.
Anyway, I look forward to riding this summer. I'm signed up for a century on June 12, Flying Wheels, and the Courage Classic in August. Now if I could just lose the extra 15 pounds I'd be a happier climber.
Cheers!

Welcome Mike to Bike Forums.
Loosing weight is not about miles, but taking in Less Calories.
Post a pic of the new bike sometime.

Welcome to BF.
Another good way to burn calories and lose a few pounds is to buy a beater bike (for riding in Seattle's lovely weather) and bike commute to work.
I was in Seattle a few weeks ago and saw bike commuters everywhere.

I guess I was hoping the extra exercise would be enough but your right. I need to maintain the diet AND exercise until I get to my goal. Quick question, do I need a certain number of posts or a photo account to be able to post photos?
