Bike Forums - Greetings from the PacNW

Hello,

I thought I would kick this off the right way and write a little into...

I am an ex XC/MTB Team rider, turned downhill, who left the sport in '97, for lack of better words getting burnt out. I'm originally from the Midwest, and moved to Boulder, CO briefly in '96-'97.

I've recently found my way back in the saddle after a number of life changes...Marriage, corporate job, children. I briefly looked at recreational road riding to support/teach/train my wife for triathlon legs. She is was a great swimmer/runner, but no so much on a rig. :)

After recently getting back into shape, I pulled out the old bike and first time out logged a 32 miler and absolutely loved it. The frustration and toxic bad taste were no longer there. I felt like I been reunited with a long friend that was long over due.

In the last three weeks, I've started project Franken-Bike and started riding regularly, and just made the transition from a triple to a double and loving the climbing this area of the country affords. Garmin Edge 500 has been installed, racing components (FSA Carbon) are replacing the stock, SRAM Red is replacing the 105 grouppo and a new frame will be on order this fall. (most likely an S-Works SL3...I am a Specialized loyalist from my previous life).

I'll be honest and say now that I am back into shape (I lost 70 pounds that I had put on over the last 10 years via diet and exercise), the competitive fire is coming back quickly along with my legs. I'll chase down other riders, look for people to catch, and will then give them a target...I've just come to terms that it is my DNA and will probably always be there. I've just set a goal for a couple of centuries, club rides, and possibly a couple of races. We'll see. :)

I'm still soaking in the new world order and the technology changes of the last 10 years! When I left the world of cycling it was full of anodized purple parts and titanium metallurgy, was near rocket science. ;)
