What to buy?
Hi everyone! I have been riding a Gary Fisher mountain bike around my neighborhood (10 miles with my 28lb 1 yr old on the back for about 2 months and am really starting to enjoy riding. There's 4 steep hills, 4 medium hills and 1 mile is a constant easy slope. It's not a hard ride but the extra poundage which will have to ride with me for at least another year until he's potty trained (so dad will watch him) makes it harder. I'm 5'3" with a longer torso so I have been looking on craigslist for weeks and I am having trouble finding bikes in my size that are affordable. I have debated getting a older bike or a newer entry level but I'm not sure what the best option would be. I am wanting to start riding some local bikes rides most are 20-80 miles and doing the Old KY Home tour 72 miles. Not sure what bike to get, if I get an older bike which are good if I get a newer model what's best for your money and the child seat will have to go on no matter what I get. Totally unsure of what the best route would be!

Welcome to Bike Forums!
You can find great deals on older bikes if you are sure of your frame size. Are you looking for a road bike or something more like a hybrid?

Hi Lillyfilly. Ask the folks in the Recreational & Family forum (https://www.bikeforums.net/forumdispl...nal-amp-Family). Lots of moms and dads riding with their kids. Some use a seat on the back of the bike. Others pull a chariot/trailer. Perhaps they can give you some advice on a bike and on options for carrying your son.
Have fun.
Have fun.
