Hello from the high desert
Hi folks,
I joined the forum the other day after signing on to read about the Bic/Kryptonite debacle. My trusty steed is currently locked up in a storage unit, wrapped in a mile of chain, like PeeWee did in his movie. Lots of funny stuff is on the forums: whether to carry guns, things we find while riding, and how to crash. I would like to tour extensively someday and lived alond the Trans-America route in the early 70's, meeting lots of riders passing through Kansas. As I get older I'd rather play in the street than on the trails. Currently my only ride is a mountain bike. Most mountain bike riders I know are completely fearless bombing down technical trails but have no desire to ride on the roads. They say it's too dangerous. Since I learned to ride to ride in traffic as a kid, it has not been a problem for me. To each his own. It's not the poundind of riding on the trails that gets to me, or the crowds. Rather it's the lengthy healing time from crashing. On the road I can go as fast as iI want and don't crash. Knock on wood.

Welcome to the forums Scarecrow! You do have a good point. I'm a roadie with only a couple MTB experiences, but they have all been wonderful! Now... my wifey has a bit different view of MTBing...she crashed a bunch more than I did and has the scars to show for it too.
