    Lurker coming out

I'm mostly a lurker but decide I should come out and introduce myself and maybe meet some other local members. I used to race XC MTB a few years ago but stopped after I assumed got vertigo or something that doctors could never figure out. Lost of balance, oodles of panic attacks and whatnot. Just not good times and fell out of biking for almost ten years. So after about a year or two of finally feeling good I got back into a love of bicycling that I've had since elementary school.
Since I sold my bikes I had to completely start over and first got into older bikes...balloon tires bikes last year but moving back into being competitive. First I tried out XC racing again but just wasn't into it anymore after trying a race this year. Then after picking up some old british three speed on a trip to visit my father in MI I got into the fixed gear and still love that. But now after never owning or let alone really riding a road bicycle I've simply fell in love with it. I started out commuting to work on a fixed gear twenty miles round trip. Then wanted a decent bike so I listed my motorcycle(1976 Suzuki GT550) up for sale or trade for a road bike and got 2008 Giant OCR1 and $200 bucks. After riding that I wanted to see how I was in something competitive and entered a 90 mile race and 721/1300 and took me 4h42m which I was suprised with with an avg of 18.8 mph.
Now after getting stung from the skinny tire bug I'm hooked. Hopefully next year I'll get to do more road races after getting into it a little late. Just more time for me to get on the rollers since living in WI the white stuff is only a few months away and start getting ready for next year. The only thing I miss is going on the local group rides since by the time I get out of work during the week they've all already left. Well I'll spare you all with novel I seem to be getting into. I love the site and already gained so much info.

I commute because it's the only time I really ride my road bike since the only ride I can get to is a vintage ride with mostly cruisers so nothing to get a workout to. But beggers can't be greedy! I thought I would of died out there since I only do twenty mile trips let alone ten mile trips at one time. The one time I did get to ride with a road group it was really overwhelming since they were all racers with their carbon bikes and whatnot. I'm out there with my OCR1 and a Brooks wool jersey and some Ray Bans. lol. I can't wait till next year to the race again and get more races under my belt.
