Howdy from Long Beach, CA!

Hey all,

I'm pretty new to cycling, and thought I'd jump into a bike forum while I was at it. I picked up a new 2010 Trek 2.3 (62 cm - I'm a big guy!) from my local shop in Long Beach about 4-5 months ago, and have put about 700 or so miles on it. I also picked up a refurbished Garmin 705, and love watching the calorie and milage meter spin a little more after every ride.

I suppose Im here to learn from others with many more miles than I about progressing as a cyclist.

Anyway, glad to be here, and hoping to improve my level of riding.

Welcome to cycling Gringo Bandito! I started riding again about 3 years ago and haven't looked back since. 5 bikes later, I have about 10,060 miles logged so far. If you want to improve, just keep riding. You can work on distance or cadence or both. Just don't kill yourself!

BTW, do you ride the San Gabriel River Trail from Long Beach?

Welcome
Like machacon said you'll have tons of fun cycling, especially in Southern California.
I grew up in Irvine and rode the surrounding area for years. Just a great place to ride

Hey all, tried replying from my iPhone a couple of times, but it kept failing me. Meh..

I'm really curious to hear about what bikes you've progressed through over the years, Mchacon01. Due to the rough nature of the local paths and PCH I'm already thinking ahead about the bike I'd like to upgrade to, and how I'm gonna go about doing it. I do ride the S.G. Bikepath regularly, and it can be a little jarring. Longest ride yet clocked in at 46.9 miles, and it was kinda painful. Ok, no, it kicked my ass properly. Maybe a nicely appointed Roubaix SL3 in my future?? I'm open to suggestions, and have lots of time to save up for it.

As far as clothing though, I learned quickly not to buy cheap shorts! Got me 3 pairs of PI Elites to replace those discounted Canaris I picked up before mile 1
