I am a Gramma living in one of the most beautiful, diverse and historical cities in the southeast. I made a promise to myself 6 months ago that i would ditch the car and ride my bike as much as i can. I ride my bike to work, on errands, to the bus so I can see my grandsons. I've had a few adventures and more than a few "firsts", but I am enjoying every turn of my wheels. I ride a beach cruiser because I also ride on the beautiful firm sands of the beaches here. I'm 60 yrs old this year, so fancy bikes may be a thing of the past for me. I just need to get where I am going safely.
My kids have blinged out my bike with blinky lights, horns, baskets and all kinds of reflectors.
I am up to about 10 miles a day, sometimes a little more. Now that this brutal summer heat is over, I plan to ride more. Evening rides are my favorite. The sunsets here are spectacular!
Charleston is getting on the bicycle bandwagon slowly but bike lanes are planned on a lot of new road projects and also they are adding sharrows and bike lanes to older roads. It's so flat here anyone can ride around the area with little effort. It's nice to be here and find new friends that love cycling as I do! I know I will learn a LOT!
