Wait a Minute...How Did I Get Here?

Hello All,

Well it has been more years and pounds than I care to recall since I was active on a bike. But my ever-expanding posterior and the pleas of my beautiful wife have finally convinced me that it was time to do something. A few weekends ago, I dug out the mountain bike, aired up the tires and set off to ride a mile or two. Once I started pedaling, I remembered how much I loved it. Ten miles later I arrived back at the hop use just before my wife sent out the search party. I guess that my smile gave away the fact that i was enjoying myself tremendously and she encouraged me to go out for another ride the next day.

Well, it's been a few weeks and I've decided to stick with this whole cycling thing. In fact, she even encouraged me to go out and find a more fitting bike for my daily rides. So I spent an afternoon at a local bike shop and placed an order for a shiny new Trek 7.5 FX. It should be in before the weekend and I can hardly wait to take it for a long spin. Obviously, a new sport and a new bike will raise new questions, so I stumbled around the net looking for some help. Hopefully this is the place.

I look forward to meeting you all and hearing your responses to the most newb-ish questions I can muster. Thanks in advance for your patience.

Matt

Hi Matt,
New bikes are so fun.
Check in with the NorCal region.

Hello Matt,
How are you? Like you i found myself stumbling into this forum not long ago. It's a great place. Your best tool will be to "search" for specific questions as they come up. And trust me, they will come. from silly ones as, should i remove the wheel reflectors that came with my bike (btw, the answer is YES) to what's the correct air pressure i should be running.

Where in norcal are you located?

Howdy and welcome to the forums. :)

I've found for losing weight, bicycling helps, but also cutting back on the eating, or eating healthier food helps, too. I also have found a good headlight very helpful to keep on the bike this time of year.
