    Brand new rider

Ill start by sayin hey all!

My names Derek im 24 and i live in beautiful San Diego.

My buddy moved to San Jose a few weeks ago and didnt want to take alot of things as he would be living in a hotel so i inherited his bike! All i really know is its a Cinelli road bike. I cant find a model on it or anything online about it but i took it to a bike shop and the guy told me it was friction shifting and i guess you would say it has 3 gears? Im sure i sound like a complete idiot but anyways off of the tech side. I started riding and i have absolutely fallen in love with riding. Ive done a few of the San Diego bike routes and ive really just been taken over by cycling and hope this can be a great place to learn alot of things and not be such an idiot about the tech side of bikes.

Anyways this is my baby and beat up car haha

Sweet! I don't know much about your bike but it looks like it gets the job done. Bike commuting is so awesome that once you get addicted to it you'll never want to go back.

Yeah... road bikes are like crack basically. I had a hybrid previously and was always "meh" about riding it but once I got my first road bike I was 100% addicted.

That's how precisely how i feel. Although i would not discount hybrids. I could perhaps, if i may, change your statement to "cycling is like crack." I got into biking on a hybrid down in southamerica, I cycled everyday for a month and a half , and shortly after arriving to the States, i purchased my first bike.

It's been several months and after logging some miles, i'm awaiting the arrival of my first road bike!!

I'm super excited!! I can't wait to get it and start logging even more miles! Congratulations and welcome to the forum!

I guess everybody's different and the main problem with my hybrid was: I didn't try out NEARLY enough bikes before I bought it so I had no clue that it was not the bike for me.

Not really... for me the transition basically was me feeling like "wow... THIS IS WHAT RIDING A BIKE SHOULD BE LIKE!!!" and I had 0 issues. I'd say ride whatever you like... hybrid, MTB, etc.
