My wife and I have started biking to get exercise and spend quality time together. We have enjoyed it.

Sadly, though, last Saturday morning we had a mishap. We were coasting down a gentle grade in our subdivision when she turned in front of me to swerve to go to a garage sale. I hit her, and we both went flying ... about 15-18 mph. She suffered a subdural hematoma and spent the entire weekend in the Grady Memorial Hospital trauma unit under the care of a neurosurgeon. WE WERE NOT WEARING HELMETS. Big mistake. The message is ... don't ride without one.

Anyway, she is the office manager at our church, and I am the Headmaster of our Christian school.

I really enjoy working on bikes ... I've purchased bikes for all my grandkids at garage sales. My goal is to have the entire clan out riding together some Saturday morning .... helmeted, of course.

Once again, please wear a helmet so you don't have to experience a weekend like we did.

God bless ...

Welcome to Bike Forums.
Sorry to hear about the mishap. Hope she is doing ok. Tell her in the future that garage sale outings will be in the car or on foot.
I know what you mean about helmets. I won't even do a test ride around the block after doing a minor repair or adjustment on the bike without a helmet.

Stop by the Southeast Regional subforum and say hello to the locals in the Atlanta/Decatur thread. Or start your own thread for folks south of town.

Thank you for asking.

She has spent the entire week at home under a watchful eye. The headaches are subsiding, but we were instructed to be watchful for months ... just in case there is an increase in bleeding in the brain.

She wants to ride again ... we don't want to give up our exercise together.

She's tough.

Thanks again for your care.
