Hello from central Alabama.

Hello folks. My name is Heather, I'm from Alabama as the title says. "DUA"
When I was in my late teens and early 20's I was very much into cycling. Got older, Gezzz about 20 years older, and decided it was time to get back into it after finding my blood pressure was up & gaining weight. The old doctor told me exercise should cure me, no problems. So, I thought about it a while and remembered cycling was about the only form of exercise I really enjoyed but have been out of it so long I may as well be starting over again. Upon getting this information I went to the local Wal-Mart and got what looked to be about the best road bike they on the shelf, A Schwinn Varsity. Not a bad bike, but not all that great at 25 pounds. After riding a few weeks, I am already seeing improvements in my health. Now, this has caused a new problem for me... I am starting to remember my love of cycling. You ask, "Why is that a problem, that great?" Here is the problem, when I ask my husband for a new road bike up to the task for use in local club rides he's going to flip out at there price. I will be asking for a new TREK soon, so wish me luck and lets hope his blood pressure doesn't go up to high when I introduce him to the cost @ the LBS.

Good luck with persuading the husband and the fitness training.
Post pics of the new bike.
Stop by the Southeast Regional subforum. Lots of Alabama folks there in the Sweet Home Alabama thread.

Thanks

I am sure he will understand. I love road cycling and can't believe I forgot how much fun it was. I think it may have been buying a house starting a business and just all around working my but off. Life got better I got married and and started putting my butt back on. If I have to make a unilateral choice it may not make him happy but it needs to be done. How ever the Chinese Schwinn Varsity 700C is working for me now after some aftermarket mods, disassembling it and tuning it. Still need some clip less peddles,,,But,, well refer to the first line. LOL

But I remember the 1990 TREK 1000 I had when I was 19 or 20 and it was so smooth and so easy.

Good starter bike.
It got you back on the road and in the mood for group riding.

Howdy and welcome to the forums.

Bicycling has been good for me, lost quite a bit of weight and it is exercise that I enjoy.

If you look at new bike cost, divide it out per hour of riding over a multi-year period and it may seem a lot cheaper.

If you invest in clipless pedals, shoes, and stuff like that on your current bike, you can swap it all over to the new bike when you get it.
