    Central Texas Grandpa

Hello. I live in Central Texas and will be 63 next month. I have been biking for a while after I had to stop running. (knees)
I am 6'5" and weigh in about 235 and going down. (Was over 275 5 months ago)
I have 5 kids, 6 grandkids and a great wife.
I am riding a 2006 Sequoia and am looking to upgrade. That is what got me to the site.
I am testing (today) a 2011 Secteur Apex and a 2011 Roubaix Elite Apex.

I am looking for input/feedback on these bikes and/or other options although my LBS is pretty much a Specialized shop and my Sequoia has been good to me.

    Open to ideas.

I've had several since 1999 but have settled on my beloved 2001 Litespeed Tuscany and my latest, a 2015 Cannondale SuperSix EVO carbon

    Welcome to Bike Forums.
I have to vote for the Roubaix. In December I picked up a 2011 Specialized Tarmac Elite with SRAM Apex. Great bike and I really like the Apex shifting. It has most of the benefits of a double and a triple.
    BTW: I'm 66 years old.

Stop by the 50+ forum and say hello to the old timers.

Can't help you on those specific bikes. But Howdy and welcome to the forums!

Thanks Ron. Ended up bringing home the Roubaix Elite Apex (black/black gloss). I went with intention of Secteur but after riding both on various surfaces the difference in the Roubaix was obvious. I did not think that was possible given the 2 bikes have the same geometry. Went through complete fitting as well and ended up on the 61 frame. The other factor was the the Secteur is basically the Sequoia with a few upgrades and the Apex gears but basically the same.
Took a quick spin when I got home on the same surface I ride all the time (lot of chip and seal) and the Roubaix was noticeably better. I would like to think that is not the "I want it to be better" factor going on. I really don't think that is the case. I will try to get some pics up. We are going out of town for weekend but can't wait to get back and ride some more.

Make sure it fits your needs. Myself, i prefer comfort over anything. Make sure you have the correct size bike over a 60cm? i am assuming. the encyclopedia of bikes and parts is a site called: sheldonbrown.com great info there. Not a spokesman for the site, just giving you some info

    welcome to the form

    have a great day

Thanks for the information. The fitting at my LBS was pretty thorough. (took almost 2 hours) I spent so much time on trainer I was starting to sweat some! Yea, the size is 61 cm. My old bike was a 58cm. I did not think I would notice the difference but I did.
I went for my first ride (after the initial quick one) when I got home from out of town today and it was awesome! The difference was remarkable. I always used to feel rides in my shoulders a little. Not a hurt, but I knew they were strained.
Today after 15+ miles, hardly noticed. (I do have to get used to the seat though)
Love the ride! I really thought that carbon could not make that much of a difference, but I was wrong.
Hardly felt the road with this bike that I would feel significantly with my Sequoia.
Not quite sure about the Apex yet. I have 105's on my Sequoia and the Apex is quite different. Wasn't real smooth today but mostly because I am not used to it. (is a little noisier too, but not horrible)
I still need to do pics.
Thanks to all for support and comments.
