Taking care of the amenities

This greeting comes from Manchaca, Texas, which is just south of Austin. I'm right in the center of the state and it takes forever to get out of Texas in any direction from here. The good news is that I am on the Balcones Fault which gives me the option to ride west into the Texas Hill Country or east into the rolling farm lands -- all within a few miles.

I am a current board member of the League of American Bicyclists and the only member of the board elected by the entire LAB membership (rather than a region or an appointment). For that reason, I feel like I am the designated board member for interfacing directly with members from anywhere. So, if you have questions or comments, let me know.

I am also a League Cycling Instructor, a Texas SuperCyclist Project trainer and have been a regional trainer for LAB (certifying instructors).

I am a writer/editor and put together Southwest Cycling News which is a monthly tabloid newspaper about cycling in Texas. I send sample copies to those requesting one and supplying a snail mail address.

I am a touring/commuting/utility/transportation/recreational cyclist. I do it all except racing. I'm 60, so my off-road riding is more careful than it once was and I don't go for the big air.

I have ridden throughout most of the US with excursions in Mexico, Ireland and the Ecuadorian Andes. In my youth I lived and bicycled in Cuba for a couple of years and am determined to get back there when I have the time and wherewithall.

That's about it. I do answer questions and yes, I am working on at least one book about cycling (actually three).

I'm expecting to enjoy Bike Forums though I'm a bit intimidated by all the options. On my site (2merediths.org) there are just a couple of my bike stories and some links to my club's URL and the League, etc. I feel like a babe in the woods looking at this site.

Man, how I ramble -- it's a writer thing, I guess.

Dont be afraid to post here......these people wont ignore you like some other big sites do. Some of the other forum pages have members that really stand out, and the whole site revolves around them.

Welcome. Hope to hear more from you. You'll find some fellow writers here. You may have already noticed, there are members from all over the globe. A very diversified membership sharing a common passion for two-wheeled transportation.

From your history and experiences it would seem you have a lot to share with the rest of us, and I hope you will.
