Greetings all!

Hello. My name is Ron and I am a 50+ + +. I hadn't been on a bike since I was a teen and 4 years ago, a neighbor asked me to ride. She and her husband had 4 bikes so they pulled one down for me. It was a road bike. I got on it and thought I was gonna crash and burn. Tires too thin for someone who hadn't been on a bike ride in some 30+ years. So I chose the hybrid. After several nice short rides, I decided to buy my own hybrid. That was back in 2007. I am a causal rider at best and my max was 20 miles.

A few weeks ago, after a 15 mile ride, I decided it was time to move up to a road bike. I found your site and began reading about what type of bike to get, type of gears, derailers and all kinds of words I'd never heard before. Armed with all sorts of information I learned from this forum, I went to a very reputable LBS who helped me find the perfect bike, outfit it accordingly, set me up using a computerized camera rig and sent me on my way. That was late yesterday. Today it's so windy and dismal, I'm staring out the window debating on whether to head out or wait for the nicer day tomorrow.

In any event, I wrote a book here, but wanted to say hi and thanks for all the valuable information. I look forward to learning more in the days and weeks ahead.

Cheer!
Ron

Welcome Ron. What bike did you get? Got pics?
I'm 66 and only ride road bikes. Like many others here I got back into riding in my 50s -- 55 to be exact.
Stop by the 50+ forum and say hello to the old timers.
And if you want to meet locals, stop by the Southeast Regional subforum. Lots of TN folks there.

Thanks Ron. I started out with a Trek 7.3 FX. I really hated to part with it, but really didn't see myself riding two bikes, plus take up more space in the garage. I traded up for a 2011 Madone 4.5. I'll post pictures once I get her rollin'. I think tomorrow will be my 1st true ride! Looking forward to it. Thanks for the tips. I've been to the SE forum and am heading over to the Plus 50 now.

 Many of us have 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 or ....... bikes. After you've been here a few days you'll learn the N+1 rule. :)
