I live in Northern Virginia and I'm new to the forums and am about to get back into cycling. I was overweight all my life until, beginning in September '09, I finally made a lifestyle change and started exercising and counting calories and watching what I ate. I started steadily losing weight and getting in better shape, until I found out that my Mom had Stage III cancer a few months later.
I stopped counting calories and exercising, but I still watched what I ate and my weight loss actually accelerated at that time and continued even after my Mom passed away. From my Sept '09 start weight of 185+ I dropped down to around 135 by March and have maintained that weight ever since.
Starting in early February I got back into exercise, and now I'm looking for more ways to increase my cardio fitness, which is already pretty good, but I really want to take it to the next level. I had a mountain bike in the mid-90's and had a lot of fun (nothing very technical though), but now I am looking to get into road cycling.
I've already learned a lot from browsing the forums and I hope to learn a lot more in the future.
