Welcome, Joanne. What you look for in a road bike kinda depends on what you intend it for: to "ride it all over town" or to race or to ride fast club rides or to tour or compete in triathlons or.... But, first, the single most important thing about a road bike is fit, so scout around for a LBS known for that. What's the budget? Lots of good entry-level bikes available.

For some general information, go here: https://www.chainreaction.com/roadbiketestrides.htm

Hi,
what's the budget? Do you have long legs or short?
Do you want to throw a sleeping bag and a tent on it, or go
fly on a fast group ride? Or commute, or...?

If you want to learn about road riding, watch the whole tour, i literally went into watching the tour wiht little to none road knowledge and literally i knew a **** load near the end, and it really got me thinking and learning all about the bike, e.g. compnets, riders, races etc. So i can relate. PM me if you ahve any questions ,

now about the bike, people have already said most of what i was going to say, what are you going to use it for? how much are you going to use it? how much do you want to spend? its hard to say good attributes ofr a good road bikke you could say things like the material used? (carbon fiber, Ti, aluminum, stell etc.) pretty much that the frame fits you! if you are un comfy dont get it , if you are very comfy and not any really back pain or any pain it sounds good.

Welcome to BikeForums, neighbor!

You are looking into road bikes because you want to go fast, right? Then look for light weight (especially the wheels). As bikes get lighter, the quality of all the components generally goes up, as does the cost. There are a number of manufacturers who make bikes specifically designed for women. Check them out.

Also, send Koffee Brown a message and she will admit you into the secret Women's Forum. (I wonder what they do in there?)
